received an old salt shaker. the top will not come off. apparently salt has corroded it that badly. can this be rescued, or will it have to resign itself to being just a piece to look at?? IP: Logged |

Soak the salt in a glass filled with common household ammonia for a few hours. Remove it and try to remove the lid. If it does not budge, soak it for a longer period. The ammonia will not damage the silver but will remove the chloride corrosion caused by the salt. Be patient and you should see results. This is why it is never advisable to leave the salt in the salt.... IP: Logged |
