I have recently acquired a few very pretty pieces of which I know nothing about. Can anyone tell me what "Bristol Silver by Poole" 115 means? It is on the bottom of a very heavy rectangular chafing dish stand. Also, I have a dish with the letters "GNUN" epns MADE IN ENGLAND 88. I am very new to this and know literally nothing about them. Thanks for any help. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Welcome to the forums. Your silver-plated chafing dish stand was made by the Poole Silver Co. of Taunton, Massachusetts. Their Bristol Silver division was founded in 1950. The Poole Silver Co. was purchased by the Towle Mfg. Co. in 1971. So, your stand was made between 1950 and 1971. The 115 is a stock or catalog number. Your dish was obviously made in England. EPNS means electro-plated nickel silver. Nickel silver is an alloy of nickel, copper, and zinc. It contains no silver. I don't recognize the "GNUN" mark -- is it on the bottom of the dish? The "88" is a stock or catalog number. Hope this helps! IP: Logged |

Yes, the "GNUN" letters are on the bottom. They are exactly as I typed them, in quotation marks. It's a rectangle shaped dish with a cover and 2 handles on the cover...very plain looking, but rather heavy. Thanks for the information. ------------------ IP: Logged |
