[01-1154]

I have acquired a salt and pepper set marked 'duchin creation' with a hand impressed on the bottom.

I would be interested in any info regarding the age or maker of the items.they are about 4 1/2 inches tall, glass lined, with a rolled edge on the base and upper neck of both shakers.

Thanks in advance for any info

From a post by dragonflywink

Where to find into on this silver company??
The other set is by Duchin Creations. Rainwater shows the company working in the 1950s. I can remember selling Duchin (silverplate) in the '70s, when I was in the fine gift section of an upscale department store. The sales rep told me that the hands were a reference to famous pianist/bandleader Eddy Duchin, I've never found any other reference to that, so have no idea if the company was actually connected to Eddy and his son Peter. Weighted Duchin sterling pieces are fairly common.

Thanks alot.

Do you happen to know the country of origin for Duchin pieces, and how long they were being made (or if they are still being made for that matter)?

Based on the marks I would guess that Duchin would be an American company. There are no German marks or export marks of any kind. Pete how did you determine it was a German company?

I find it strange that Rainwater has so little info on Duchin (one mark, 1950's, location unknown) yet there is a lot of product around at mall shows, eBay and the rest of the internet. Does anyone have an explanation?

The concentration seems to be on small holloware such as candle sticks, s+p's, bases for glass and porcelain items, little vases, etc.

Someone has told me that it is a Danish maker. However, I am unable to find anything to verify this.

Thanks for all the info so far!
