I have 2 lovely pewter wine glasses and I wanted to find out how old they are. On the bottom of each glass is etched:
p73 PEWTER Y781399 Someone told me that New Amsterdam Silver Co. existed until the late 1800s. Does that mean I can assume that my glasses are from the late 1800s? IP: Logged |

In Rainwater & Redfield, there is a referral to Knickerbocker Silver Co. When you go to Knickerbocker's listing, it says it is the successor to J.A. Babcock & Co. in 1894, which places the earliest possible date for these at 1894. There is no specific information about New Amsterdam Silver other than a replication of their mark. The company (Knickerbocker) existed in some form or another until 1962, and these could be quite modern. I wish I could help you more. IP: Logged |
