[01-1636] I have 3 goblets by Raimond Silver. That is all that is marked on the bottom. I am wonder what they are made of...silver plate, sterling, or pewter? They don't seem to be pewter. I also have another goblet that is marked encircled "SD" then 462 then a lion, panther head, a "C" then the Queens profile. Then it says made in England. Who is the manufacturer of this and is it silver plate. Thanks for all your help.

Your photo of the English goblet is not clear enough for me to be certain, however the lion should indicate sterling silver, and the panther that it was assayed in London. The head of Queen Victoria indicates that tax had been paid; this mark was abolished in 1890. The letter C is the date letter, and this depends on the precise style of the letter and the cartouche - however 1878-9 seems a strong possibility. The "made in England" stamp is relatively uncommon on English silver as the hallmark system make it unneccessary, so probably the goblet was made for export. IP: Logged |

so....does it appear to be sterling or silver plated? and do you think the other goblets by Raimond are silver or pewter??? Thanks so much for your help in this matter. Sharon IP: Logged |

The Italian ones are unlikely to be solid silver unless you discover additional marks. Whether they are silverplated or something else I wouldn't want to speculate on based on a photo alone. IP: Logged |

The Italian goblets seem to be electroplated going by similar ones I've seen around. The English cup has, I think, a fair likelihood of being a production of around the jubilee of Queen Eliz. 2. The hallmarks photo looks like it was taken in a heavy fog, but it could well show the large cursive 'C' of about 1977-1978, with the head of the Queen which was specially used to mark the occasion. A lot of stuff similar to that cup was produced at the time. If the maker's/sponsor's mark is in an elliptical punch, it could be that of Stuart Devlin. IP: Logged |
