Hi,

This spoon is I believe a sugar spoon with art nouveau daffodils and other decorations on it.It reads pat.1901 Solid Yukon Silver.

I can't seem to find any info. on Yukon Silver and is it solid silver?

It polishes up like it and it's not plate. I appreciate any help.

Thank you,
Pat

It is almost certainly another item such as 'Nevada Silver', 'Alaska Silver', etc. which were popular a hundred years ago. None of them contain any real silver but are silver colored alloys such as white metal, alpacca, etc.. By that time any manufacturer using silver of the requisite fineness would be sure to mark it as 'Sterling' and they wouldn't waste real silver in alloys with base metals.

Someone on the internet (who I guess should remain nameless here) is selling a sugar shell with the following description:
"Yukon Silver was a trade name used by Sears Roebuck and Company, for some of their flatware. Yukon Silver is close to Britannia Metal, excepting that Yukon Silver will not allow the coming into contact with a greasy substance, so please do not use it to serve butter, otherwise it is quite a hearty material."
So what on earth is in this metal?

I saw that item, Patrick, and the thing about not using it for butter made me wonder about where they got their understanding from. So, I'm inclined to discount their info about Sears as well, particularly, since Sears Roebuck had "Alaska Silver" in their catalog about that time.
