Regarding a so called ''beaver'' mark which was dealt with in a previous post long ago called ''animal marks''. i have a card tray with the following set of marks - J.S&S maker mark, a ''beaver'' mark, a crown and a gothic date letter.
What i would like to know is if this means the item is silver or silver plated and if the crown is for sheffield thank you.

It is silverplated as identified by Brent in his post of 10-10-2003 on this thread click here (I am unable to identify this particular hallmark on a decanter stand) .

The crown may have been intended to evoke Sheffield, but the maker was in Birmingham.
