Does anyone have a suggestion on the best way to remove a very old fragment of scotch tape from silver? By 'very old' -- it could have been there for 30 or 40 years. It's yellowed, of course, and hard, so no hope of peeling or lifting the edge. I thought of Goo-Gone but worry about its effect on the surface. IP: Logged |

Also be sure there is lots of good ventilation when using solvents. Think about hidden ignition sources - like pilot lights in kitchen stoves, furnaces, etc. Or sparks from a cellphone, staticy sweater/carpet, etc. IP: Logged |

Acetone works wonders and won't harm the silver at all. However, like Scott said, use in an open area as the fumes can be a bit much! IP: Logged |

Hello again seaduck, I have had great success filling a bowl with very hot water & Dawn original liquid dishwasher detergent & letting it soak for a couple of hours. If it does not come off with easy finger rubbing I have a scrubby brush, not one with bristles nor like brillo , then I scub it away. Works wonders No scratches either.. My problem here is that I can't tell you who makes the brushy pad. I picked it up at a sale a while ago. It is a pad with a handle similar to an iron. Hi Jersey-- As I was cleaning something today with Dawn, I remembered this message.....it's amazing how often original Dawn is the remedy for all sorts of problems! Thanks for this tip! IP: Logged |
