I have a silver picther with the following: Cross FBR Lion on back feet Taunton, Mass 925 Is it sterling silver and when was it made? Thanks IP: Logged |

Hi! I can only take a somewhat educated guess that it could be the FB Rogers company of Taunton, Mass. It's the 925 that throws me off as most of their wares were silverplated. That 925 could very well be a pattern number versus the standard mark for sterling. OTOH It could also be pewter which I believe they made also. Hope this info gives you a "where to go to next" clue. I have seen pieces with this mark but cannot find it in the "books" I have. Good Luck. Jersey IP: Logged |

One crude but easy to run test I like to do to verify silver in a case such as this is to put a couple of ice cubes in the container and wait a few seconds. A small silver vessel will quickly cool where a plated white metal pitcher will take a very long time to cool. Silver is a very good at conducting heat. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |
