An enthusiast of ONC came in today to mention that he had seen on At auction some ONC silver in the Old Newbury pattern and it was stamped with the name of Rand and Crane. This apparently was a retailer, perhaps a jeweler, and we were thinking that the names suggest Boston as its location. In the time I've worked at ONC I've never seen a stamp with those names and Bob Lapham has no knowledge of them either. Has anyone out there heard of Rand and Crane, and have you any information about them? middletom IP: Logged |

I own a couple of handwrought spoons that I believe were made by George Blanchard and are marked Rand & Crane. Fred IP: Logged |

Rand & Crane did retail silver by various Boston area arts & crafts silversmiths. Unfortunately, some of them did not include their own trademarks, so the actual makers are unidentified. Brent IP: Logged |

Thank you all for your responses. Those pieces offered for sale would be from the early years of ONC. Fred, you wrote that you believe George Blanchard made the pieces you have. Didn't he mark his silver? And, if not, why do you believe he made those pieces? Middletom IP: Logged |

Pure speculation and spreading the thoughts of other respected collectors and dealers. As Brent says... without the maker's marks we can never be sure who made these. Fred IP: Logged |
