[01-1282] Has anyone noticed the similarity between J & S Co.'s JSE2 pattern and International's Georgian Maid? Is that a coincidence, or did Int'l acquire the JS dies when they went out of business in 1905? IP: Logged |

I am not familiar with the Joseph Seymour JSE2 pattern. Can you post a photo of both patterns so we can see what you mean? [This message has been edited by June Martin (edited 10-24-2003).] IP: Logged |

June, the JSE2 designation is the "name" that Replacements has given this pattern, lacking any information about the real pattern name, if any. A picture of this:
Their picture for Georgian Maid is: . There are some similarities between the two, as often happens among patterns. Seymour's design (from the picture) appears to have a lightly hammered surface. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Thanks, Anuh. The patterns sure are similar. The drop at the bottom of the beading a third of the way down the handle looks a bit different to me. IP: Logged |

I see differences in the shape of the top but that could be damage. The top drop appears to be a different shape, if you look closely. The beaded cartouche appears to be more angular on the IS version, and as you point out, the drop in the middle section of the handle is different, having on two components instead of three. Since I don't have either pattern on hand in stock, this is all based on the pictures, which are pretty clear. ------------------ IP: Logged |
