Hi All Does anyone know anything about Loring Andrews in Cincinnati? I just purchased a small tray that has a grape - repousse border and would like to know more about it. I saw an earlier post but all that gave was that it was a retailer from 1896-1958. a little internet search turned up a Newstedt-Loring Andrews which I guess is the successor and a few pieces here and there that all seem to be in the same style as the tray. So obviously they were/are retailers but did they also make silver or just retail silver made by other makers without the makers name? Any additional help would really be appreciated. IP: Logged |

Loring Andrews & Co's years in business in Cincinnati look about right. Their final year may be about a decade short, but without any firm information to refute it, I'll have to say it looks good enough to me for now. From what I can gather, they were jewelers, silversmiths, importers and antique dealers. Loring Andrews was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1854 and died there in 1921. He is listed as a jeweler in the Cincinnati, Ohio census's from 1880 to 1920. He is listed in Cincinnati directories as a clerk and a salesman at 58 W 4th from 1874 to 1886 and a salesman at E (Everett) E Isbell & Co jewelers from 1887 to 1894. Loring Andrews & Co is listed in the 1896 Cincinnati directory which gives them an approximate startup year of 1895. IP: Logged |
