Above are two spoons made by the Mechanics Sterling Company in Attleboro, MA. This company was part of the Watson and Newell Company. Their mark is a flag with the letter H on it and the word Sterling. The spoons appear the same at first glance, but as you can see different flowers are used on each spoon. Does anyone know the pattern name or how many different flowers were used? IP: Logged |

That's Watson's Floral Series No. 3, looks like Poppy and Columbine - they date to the first few years of the 20th century and most of the florals had at least a dozen different designs, some had many more... ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

Thanks Cheryl. They are attractive spoons, slightly smaller than most teaspoons, but very well done. The designs on flatware from that era were very sharply executed. I will have to look to see if I can find other flowers in the series. IP: Logged |

Five o'clock size - they were popular as souvenir spoons, often found with names or places engraved, also as 'birth-flower' gifts. ~Cheryl IP: Logged |

Watson is one of my favorite manufacturers, some of their souvenir spoon designs are just beautifully done - my Lily of the Valley spoon collection started with a 1903 Floral Series No. 1 piece. Have also wondered why the 'H-in-pennant' mark (do occasionally run across a 'W-in-pennant')? ~Cheryl
