There were two firms of this name, neither one still extant. One made plated goods at the turn of the century. The other made sterling, and was in Brooklyn in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Is yours plated or sterling? A picture would help determine the age, based on style. IP: Logged |

The cup I have is plated w/name Chas P McClintic engraved on side. appears to have been in a fire or very neglected. some dents and covered w/black which has been hard to remove. Would you know if there are any Company records still available? Thanks! IP: Logged |

I don't know, but it is highly unlikely that they do survive. IF it is the silver-plate company, then, according to Rainwater, their actual location isn't even known. The Brooklyn firm, from the 1950s, might have left records--but in 90% of the cases businesses simply destroy their records when they close up. IP: Logged |

Until the latest collecting craze, company records weren't considered all that important, either. Today, anything which has information about a firm or their products (at least in the silver line) has value in and of itself! If you want to collect that line, please do so. Post a copy of the mark under the Wanted section (so we know whose work we are dealing with) and then hope that someone has pieces to sell you. Also, you might pass around hints to local dealers where you are that you are interested in that company as a collectible for yourself. Since they aren't a large company, there will be few buyers specifically interested in them, and most dealers won't try to gouge you when they come across a piece. JMO ------------------ IP: Logged |
