Does anyone know of a source or books on Turkish silver hallmarks from the 1900-1920 period?

I have a mark that doesn't consist of any letters, only a single animal head or fish figure. It has detail, but it is still hard to recognize the creature.

I'm hoping that there is a web page or book in circulation that could be my guide.

Any help that someone could give me would be very appreciated.

What is the mark on?
It would help if you would post a photo of the mark and of the item.
Is it a maker's mark or a standards mark?
What makes you think it is Turkish?
What references have you already used? (i.e., Tardy's)

I am researching a Turkish made badge. It is a Star shaped piece with a vertical, thin pin on the back. The reverse of the badge is also where the "animal" mark is that I mention above. There are no other makers marks visable.

I have looked at many of the silver references available at my Central Library's collection. All but one had nothing on a Turkish marks, and the one that did, had only signature device marks and silver content marks.

I have a digital camera and would like to show a photo of the mark, but the instructions here on the "post a reply" page don't mention how/where I would down load the image.

Your help here Scott would be most welcome.

First I suggest that you register . This way if you want to edit (correct) your post you can. Unregistered users may post but are not permitted to edit what has already been posted.

We recommend that photos be no larger than 72 dpi and not to exceed 490 pixels in width.

Putting a photo into your post is not hard. Just use the UBB "IMG" tag Which is described here in the UBB code faq. The process is similar but not as hard (no HTML required) as putting an image on your own web page or on eBay.

Also helpful is the general FAQ

Scott,

Were you able to view the photo? Just click on the URL, and look at the photo in the upper left corner.

It's very distinct and interesting. I thought if you could see it, you might be able to identify it.

Thanks for posting a link to a photo of the mark. It is not familiar But it does look a bit like the "tourgha" standards mark for silver. You seem to think it is a maker's mark. ??

As per my earlier post :

If you do locate a good reference that specializes on Turkish silver makers and standards marks, please let us all know.
