I have a lovely pair of candy dishes with the marks E&Co (or E Co.),anchor, lion, and lower case g. They are hammered all over (sorry I don't know how to post photo yet).
I understand they are Birmingham, England.
Is anyone familiar with E&Co?
Thank you. Page

Sounds like they were made by Elkington & Co Ltd of Birmingham. The other marks sound like British hallmarks - the anchor is for Birmingham, the lion for sterling silver, and the "g" is the date letter - these alphabetical cycles depend on the exact style of the letter and the box it is in. Possibilities for "g" include 1881 and 1906. A photo will be necessary for a definitive identification

Two further points that may help:
1) As your piece does not have a 'Queen's Head' duty mark, it must be after 1890 as that is when the mark ceased to be used.
2) E&Co as a mark was only re-introduced by Elkington & Co. (The biggest and best of the British mass manufacturers)in 1906 - prior to that (1868-1890)in order to have a totally different silver mark to the one that they used on silver-plated wares they used the initials of Frederick Elkington (FE) and between 1890 and 1906 there is a LD in the mark (E&CoLD - the D is usually tiny, but I don't know how to show it here.
Elkington & Co did use various E&Co marks between their start in 1843 and 1868, but they are not relevant to your dishes.
Therefore it must be 1906 smile
