Hi,

Did Ball, Tompkins & Black, Succesors to Marquand & Co. make silver plate or did they only work in sterling.

Thanks for your time,
Norm

According to Rainwater, Ball, Tompkins & Black succeeded Marquand & Co, as you indicate, in 1839. It was in turn succeeded by Ball, Black & Co. in 1851. Rainwater does not say whether B,T&B made silverplate, but does state the successor B,B&Co. operated its own plating works in the 1860s. My guess is that BT&B made only coin ware, just a guess.
