Does anyone recognize the mark Mc G. C. Co? It's on a silver plate spoon with GRAND CAFE on the front and QUEEN'S PLATE on the back. Considering the use of the word "Queen", is it possibly an English mark? IP: Logged |

Possibly, although the only similar thing I can find is Mappin & Webb's "Prince's Plate". What kind of spoon is it? [This message has been edited by Stephen (edited 04-27-2003).] IP: Logged |

It's really just an insignificant silverplate teaspoon. I have quite a few spoons marked for specific clubs, hotels, restaurants, etc. This pattern is very much like the sterling Dorchester (old) pattern by International. The "QUEEN'S PLATE" on the back is incuse but somewhat imperfect. Also on the back, the "McG.C.Co." and the mark outline are raised above the surface. Sorry, I don't have a facility for taking a picture. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I think it is a Canadian mark. The same marks were found on a circa 1950s silver-plated souvenir spoon which was also marked "MADE IN CANADA". I also found a silver-plated salt spoon, Windsor pattern, with the only mark being "McG. C. Co". The "o" is raised and underlined. The seller was in Ontario. Just a guess on the name -- McG... Cutlery Co.? Unable to locate any information on the company. Hope this helps! Have also found spoons from this company marked "McG.C.Co." and "KING'S PLATE". IP: Logged |

Today I bought a silverplated ladle at a yard sale for 10 cents. It is quite old and has the mark 'McG.C.Co. KING'S PLATE'. On the site, 'Replacements, Ltd.', I found a company called McGasson, Clark & Co. There is little information regarding date of manufacture, country of origin, or value. The few pictures of other patterns are of a similar pattern to my ladle. I live in Ontario. IP: Logged |
