[01-1613] I have a large spoon & fork, salad set with the Three Crowns mark. It is in the original sleeve that shows the company name as THREE CROWNS SILVERSMITHS, POTTSTOWN, PA. Could anyone tell me the approximate age on this set?

Salad sets in this style are most often silver plate. If the salad set bears a three crown mark that looks like this then it is solid silver of at least 830 fineness. I am not familiar with the company name. I suppose it could be the importer's name or the name the Swedish silver manufacturer uses for export. You might try calling directory information in Pottstown, Pa to see if Three Crowns Silversmiths is listed. Alternatively, if there is an import/export company in Pottstown you could give them a call to see if they know who/where Three Crowns Silversmiths is. Maybe WEV or Brent will have a better idea. I have encountered a number of pieces from this manufacturer over the years, but I don't know much about them. The pieces are definitely silver plated, not solid. They also made some pieces with a brass finish. The mark, as I recall, is three large crowns in a triangle, two above and one below, with no surround. The pieces are never marked with the name of the company. The only reason I know anything about them is that I found a set, like yours, with the sleeve. In my opinion, they are post-war, probably from the 50's or 60's, and not particularly valuable. They are rather stylish, though, and may gain value in the future. As Pottstown is not far from my home, maybe I will get over there someday and find out more about this company. IP: Logged |
