Hi, I recently purchased a Victorian silverplate insulated pitcher. It is marked SOUTHINGTON C. CO QUADRUPLATE 276. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this company. It is about 12 1/2" tall. The lady who sold it said her husband received this as an award after 40 years at a plant in Bristol Conn. IP: Logged |

The Southington Cutlery Company (location unknown) produced holloware from at least 1887 until 1892. Their circular mark had the words "Southington C. Co." and "Quadruple Plate". "276" is the piece number. These double-walled or triple-walled pitchers were called ice pitchers or ice-water pitchers. They were very popular, but eventually outmoded by mechanical refrigeration and ice cubes. IP: Logged |
