I was looking through and saw the following response from Brent to another inquiry: Your marks actually tell you what you want to know, in this case. PAT'ED is short for patented, and the patent date would be December 10, 1916 or 18, depending on whether the last number is the 6 or the 8. I have a spoon that is marked (Pat.Jan14.CS, ‘WR’ with a symbol before & after). In this case, I would understand the patent to be January 14 BUT what would CS mean? This was my grandmother's silver. She was born in 1900. Also, similarly, I assume that MCH would be March? (This is also on a Wm A Rogers piece - the entire line reads Pat.MCH.1.10) Thanks!! IP: Logged |

Could "CS" be numbers that have become worn and hard to recognize? Such as "05" or "08"? IP: Logged |

I looked at the thing about 20 times and kept reading it as 'CS' but I tried turning the item sideways in the light and it does indeed look like a '08' if you look really closely! Sorry about that - thanks for your time, though!! IP: Logged |

The items marked with iron cross WR keystone is the mark of Wm A. Rogers and the items marked Wm. A Rogers, Ltd. were made by Oneida Silversmiths Ltd. who owns the Wm. A. Rogers trademark. Both companies made silverplate. The CS in Pat.Jan14.CS is most likely 08. The pattern Carnation was patented on January 14, 1908 The mark you are describing ‘WR' with a symbol before & after should look like:
