Ran across an interesting silverplate mark (also stamped EPNS) that has an unfurled Union Jack flying over a plain rounded crown, with the letters HRS&Co underneath the crown. Is anyone familiar with this maker? Thanks in advance! IP: Logged |

I have no clue who it represents, but for some reason I had this picture in my files:
This is the mark, yes? IP: Logged |

Pretty darn close! I'm thinking it's Australian or some other commonwealth but have no other clue and no references. IP: Logged |

"HRS&Co" is a mark of Henry Rogers, Sons & Co. of Sheffield, England, used 1897 and later. The flag with crown is a mark of the same company, used 1896 and earlier. Interesting that both marks are on the same piece. I'm not sure what that means, but my guess is that the piece was made 1897 or later. And.... Rainwater shows a similar mark but with the words "trade" to the left of the flag and "mark" to the right of the flag. She attributes it to Henry Rogers, Sons & Co. in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and says "Listed in JC in 1909 in plated silver section. No record after c.1915." Hmmm.... Same firm? IP: Logged |
