I own a silver oval footed platter by the Birmingham Silver Company. I need to find out if it is plated or sterling. It is not marked that it is plated and I know that some pieces made by this Company when plated are marked so. There is a REG under the BSCo marks. What does this mean? I can't find anything about pieces made by this Company... Thanks IP: Logged |

The Birmingham Silver Co. (Brooklyn, New York, then Yalesville, Connecticut) made sterling and silver-plated wares. If your piece is not marked "sterling" it is silver-plated. The "REG" means that the trademark is a registered trademark. Hope this helps! IP: Logged |

E-mail received re this tray -- quote: All silverplate is worth something, even if it is only a tax deduction. Value of your item would be based primarily on style and condition. Sorry, I don't provide valuations in this forum or via E-mail. IP: Logged |
