I wonder if anyone could help me identify these spoons. we were clearing out the cutlery draw when I noticed the marks and wondered what they meant, a search on the internet didn't turn up anything apart from potosi silver. I am assuming it is silver plate rather than sterling silver. Photo attached
Thanks Paul

Your spoon marked "potosi silver" was made by the Birmingham-based Potosi Silver Company, named after the famous Potosi silver mine in colonial Bolivia, but in fact a pure fantasy as the metal contains no silver. The company was taken over by Levi and Salaman in 1878 (hence the LS monogram), and in turn apparently became part of Barker Brothers from about 1915 onwards. The diamond marked "Rd" means the design was officially registered in England.

Thanks for the information. I'd looked around some more and come to the conclusion that they were not silver, just wishful thinking I suppose. But as it is older than 90 years I think I will clean it and keep it safe.

Thanks Paul
