A friend of mine recently passed away and left me a silver cigar holder/flask. I don't know anything about the item, and I would like to remedy that. The item has four Hallmarks: the first are the letters BPC arranged in a triangle inside a triangle which is inside a circle, which is inside a diamond. The second Hallmark is a capital "W" inside a shield. The third Hallmark is a strange design that kind of looks like a seahorse amoung branches, which is inside a diamond. The final Hallmark is a lowercase "c" inside a small circle. The words "Sheffield England" are also stamped under the Hallmarks. If anyone could tell me anything about these marks, I would be very appreciative (I'd love to know something about this item)! IP: Logged |

It is hard to visualize what you describe wihout a picture. If you have a digital camera or can borrow one, posting photos is free and easy. See instructions above. One thing seems certain: your piece is silverplate rather than sterling, which would have different hallmarks, including a crown for the town of Sheffield rather than the name spelled out. Good luck, IP: Logged |

Tom, I see what you mean about needing a picture. I'm going to try and post a photo below (hopefully it works...)

Leviathan, I am just curious because I have never run across a cigar holder/flask is this a combo as it sounds? You did such a good job with the marks, could you show the whole, if you don't mind? Many thanks IP: Logged |

agleopar, it is a combination cigar holder and flask. Here's a picture of the whole thing:

Well, the item doesn't bear the solid silver British hallmarks, and the photo seems to reveal copper under the plating, so I would venture to guess silver plating over copper. IP: Logged |

Neat piece, designed for the more vice prone silver users. Generally, things that are meant to be hauled about and subject to a lot of use are plated for strength. Drinking and smoking, what next? Dancing? IP: Logged |

The mark on the left is the Association of British Pewter Craftsmen mark. They were founded in 1970. IP: Logged |
