[26-2550] I recently purchased two unusual silver arts and crafts style brooches. The first a shield shape set with garnets and amethyst, the second a large round brooch set with turquoise matrix. it was the way the name had been engraved and the date that caught my interest. I found little on J.B.Dainty, but I guessed his work was in the vein of the Birmingham school of arts and crafts, as they favored the Celtic style with tight silver coils. I came across a 1910 catalogue online from The Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society which revealed he had produced a silver chalice set with precious stones and a silver cross. However, this was my only record of him apart from my brooches, although other silversmiths he exhibited alongside were Bernard Cuznur, A.J. Gaskin and W.A.S Benson.
Joseph B Dainty's premises was listed as being in Dudley, about ten miles from Birmingham. IP: Logged |

It is, but the brooches are substantial weighing 18.7g and 30.8g! Also Dainty is not a helpful name to research on the internet with so many online sellers listing their items as 'dainty'. IP: Logged |
