[26-0094 07-0196] I found a pair of matching German spoons post-1888, but have been unable to identify the maker's mark. Any help would be greatly appreciated. IP: Logged |

Thank you very much for your quick reply. Your info helps a lot. By any chance do you know during what time period this manufacturer/silversmith was in business? Regards, [This message has been edited by sickpup72 (edited 01-30-2005).] IP: Logged |

Sorry, I made a typing mistake. The correct name is: Franz Mosgau This name and the address given are listed in a small "Besteck-Buch", Besteckmarken Verzeichnis(cutlery book, list of the marks of the manufacturer)printed 1952 in Stuttgart, Germany. The firm is out of business since 1960. Regards Sazikov IP: Logged |

I can add that the firm was quite an old one, founded in 1807, and that the "FZM" mark was first used in 1886 and formally registered in 1896. I believe they were located in Berlin. [This message has been edited by blakstone (edited 01-30-2005).] IP: Logged |

I expect they must have moved. (Maybe after the wall went up?) Here's their listing from the same directory, but the 1925 edition:
Also, Barbara Grotkamp-Schepers' "Bestecke des Jugendstils" has them in Berlin. She also notes that they executed at least one pattern designed by the great Peter Behrens, so they must have been a pretty good firm. IP: Logged |

blakstone- thank you very much for broaden my mind. There is still another mark of this firm, FZM in modern, capital letters - I think it is the mark for the time after WW II. Regards Sazikov2000 IP: Logged |
