Here's a reply to the posting Ehrlich Silver Mark Polish/Continental Silver in "Continental Silver", which I cannot access as a New Member: I did some quick web research and found one seller of Judaica describing J. Ehrlich as a Jewish silversmith in Warsaw, Poland, working between 1885 and 1900. Some of his pieces were described as being made in "Polish silver", which was distinguished from silverplate. I never heard of "Polish silver" before. Perhaps you should contact a museum specializing in Judaica silver and ask them about your candlesticks. IP: Logged |

"Polish silver" is like "German silver" plate! Sazikov 2000 IP: Logged |

Polish silver certainly sounded like a euphemism for silverplate! Thanks. I hope the poster in the Continental Silver Forum reads this thread. IP: Logged |

Actually, "German Silver" is not plate but "Alpacca," an alloy of nickel, copper, zinc and tin. It contains no silver at all. I cannot speak for "Polish silver," but if Sazikov is right (which he always is), then the piece is not silver plate but alpacca. Tom IP: Logged |
