I have a large pastry tong marked cailar bayard and was wondering how I might find out more about this French silversmith and find the mark he used on his pieces? I'm not sure if this is sterling or silverplate. IP: Logged |

Cailar Bayard was a French silversmiths firm that was taken over by Christofle. Their mark was a C&B. If you could provide photos of the marks on the piece as well as the piece, we may be able to tell you whether it is solid silver or silverplate, etc. IP: Logged |

June, do you have dates for C&B, i.e. from when on they were active and when they were taken over?? What few references I could find indicate activity from the turn of the century to late twenties maybe thirties. It would be interesting to know the real dates. TIA! IP: Logged |

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate any documentation about the specific dates. I was hoping someone else might know. IP: Logged |

I have found it very difficult to find out info about French silversmiths after about 1820 except Odiot, Puiforcat and Christophle. There seems to be almost no documentation about them. Frustrating to be sure. IP: Logged |
