AS to answer my own questions....... so far I have concluded through some surfing that the 3 crowns in the trefoil means that it was made in Sweden and had it been in an oval it would be an import. The 'S' in the hexagon is a grading of silver greater than 830. PRP is, of course,Perstorp, the manufacturer.......
The problem exists with the date letter(usually with a number) and the citymark. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello there, according to Tardy's, the state marks since 1912 for .830 silver is the three crowns and the S. The lower case h is for the city of Hasslehoirs (?) I cannot read the type in the book, sorry. Perhaps someone has a good atlas and can come up with the correct city. The two digit figure N? is probably the year, N7 is 1915, N8 1939 and N9 1963. When did Perstorp work?

That's great Melissa! Thanks for finding that for me. I've got no sources for Swedish silver and couldn't find any listed on the internet. by the way........ it is N9. I might also ask if you have any idea what the material in this box is?? It a very thick black' low sheen hard substance that almost looks volcanic to me. It was beautifully machined and the cover is covered with a Viking ship in silver. Just wondered if you might have more clues to this than I do??

I also have been looking for information on these 3 crowns since I own a piece my self that has the same markings. One thing is, is I know its not made by the same person as was yours! And help on the following information would be nice!

The only thing I am having problem with is the very first set of letters and numbers. But I believe these are correct.

Hi Mark,

I've owned a small Perstorp bowl with a Viking ship for several years. Mine is dated 1961. The information that I've been able to find is that these pieces (there were trays, bowls, cigarette boxes, ashtrays, coasters, etc. with many different motifs) were made by a plastics/chemical manufacturer in Sweden called Perstorp (original makers of Pergo laminate flooring). All the pieces seem to have been made in the early to mid 1960s and some sources seem to suggest that some of the designs were by Wilhelmina Wendt, a member of the family that started the company. The "h" is for Hassleholm which is fairly close to the town of Perstorp, where the company complex is. The material is Isolit, a Bakelite type plastic that the company apparently came out with somewhere around the 1920s. The pieces were made with silver or pewter inlays. I agree that they are beautifully made and am always keeping an eye out for more of the Viking ship pieces (there is more than one ship design), but they're not common in the U.S.

Oops, just realized the date of the original post, oh well! For alphastaromega: can't help with the maker, but the "19" is probably the date mark "I9" for 1959; and the city mark "M" should be for Malmo. Would be much easier if you could post photos of the marks. The S-in-hexagon indicates that it is at least 830/1000 silver. If the shape around the three-crowns is a trefoil (cat's paw), then it is a product of Sweden, if the shape is an oval, it was imported to Sweden.

Anyone know what date P6 is? Are there any tables available of the date codes?

Date code P6 on Swedish silver is for 1893, Tardy's has the chart in it. Never look at a Swedish date code without thinking of a seller that had a a beautifully designed spoon that he insisted was silver plate because of the "P5", which he saw as "PS" for plated silver. When I suggested that it was Swedish silver, he disagreed (I was fairly young then, so must have appeared ignorant, or maybe it was the dumb blonde stereotype, LOL), so I asked the price, he said a buck, and I bought a nice 1869 piece that I still love.
