I just purchased this item on a busy online auction site. The touchmarks are for sterling, London, 1849/50 (you can see the reflection in the first photo). The maker was advertised as Edward Edwards II, but in Jackson II, the mark is listed as Elizabeth Eaton (not shown in Jackson III). Could someone with Grimwade's please help me here?

Also, the monogram seems likely to be concurrent to the touchmarks, would anyone disagree?

Thanks all!

Fallon, in "Marks of London Goldsmiths & Silversmiths 1837-1914", gives this as the mark of Elizabeth Eaton, widow of William Eaton (No 2). Her "EE" mark in a conjoined pair of circles was entered on 3 December 1845 and also on 1 November 1847 (and then also in 1864 shortly before she died or retired). The "EE" mark of Edward Edwards (No 2) is in a rectangular box and was variously entered in 1828, 1840 and 1841.

It seems therefore that Elizabeth Eaton is the correct attribution here.

Thanks for the bonus information PhilO, I wasn't sure why the mark was dropped in Jackson III, since it was entered prior to the 1850 'cut-off' date. I suppose revisions aren't always for the better (in every respect, at least). I hear the 4th Ed. of Rainwater's "Encyclopedia..." is 'better' than the new 5th Ed.
