Found a lovely chased compote today made by Viners of Sheffield. It was marked Alpha plate. But have no idea what Alpha plate means. Did a search here and it pulled up 19 posts that seemed to have nothing to do with the word Alpha. Any help will be appreciated in understanding what Alpha plate is. IP: Logged |

Hi Venus! Do an internet search for (use the quotes) "Viners of Sheffield" company and you should find your answer. Hope this helps. IP: Logged |

no luck so far..... plenty of ebay, sometimes it seems that the search engines are nothing but ebay. Alpha has not shown up in any of the silver glossarys found so far, so it may well be a viners mark and may stand for A that some of the other companys have used. IP: Logged |

Thanks to all who replied.... Nice researching. In the well of the compote bottom it reads thus:
of SHEFFIELD ENGLAND ALPHA PLATE CHASED It is a pretty piece and I like it....

ty jersey It was a new item in a store I "haunt" and as I walked through the store people would stop me to look at it and comment how gorgeous it was. It is mainly luck and timing and having a "good eye" in some purchases. With the help of this forum knowlege will guide people like me as well. However some things not worth much just "sing" to you and jersey this one did an opera. heh IP: Logged |
