The spoon is flat and engraved almost like a mini cake server, and it is marked Slater Bros. EP. Who were they? IP: Logged |

A possibility for Slater Bros is a Sheffield, England, firm of cutlers in business c.1850 to c.1920. IP: Logged |

Looks like a pie server to me. What are the dimensions? Your piece is silverplate as indicated by the EP which stands for electroplated. IP: Logged |

The handle of the spoon is about 4 inches long, the bowl of the spoon about 2 and a half inches and the width of the bowl of the spoon is about 2 inches. Although it looks like a cake server to me too, isn't it too small for that? IP: Logged |

The pattern is of a type I have seen with a variety of marks. It generally seems to be associated with Northern Europe. The shape of the blade is also one seen in work from that region. It seems these are made and marked by retailers and wholesalers. Sometimes the mark is even in Cyrillic. Nice item of obscure origin. IP: Logged |

It looks like it could be used for something really specialized like serving small flat things like tomato slices, cucumber slices, petit fours, hors d'oeuvres, chocolates, etc. Silverware makers used to make up all kinds of highly specialized pieces to sell to people for them to add to their silverware sets. Sometimes it seems to me as if they were trying to eventually have a different piece of silverware for serving and eating every kind of food.
