[01-1850 The photo shows a pair of vases approx 5 inches tall with silver mounts at the top of each vase.
The hallmarks indicate a date of 1926 from London. The makers mark is HP&S. Can anyone assist with identifying the maker for me? Comments relating to the glass vases would also be most helpful. They are a recent bequest to us and we would love to know any background to them. Thanks so much for your time. IP: Logged |

Probably H Pidduck & Sons, who were a Birmingham company. They sent pieces for assay to both Birmingham and London and seem to have been working from about 1910 to 1940. Phil IP: Logged |

You asked about the glass as well. Are there any markings on the glass? Glass sometimes has makers marks that are either integral from the molding process and sometimes they can be acid etched marks that are sometimes so faint that you need to tilt the glass back and forth in a bright light to catch sight of them. In most cases, when a maker just buys ordinary glass blanks from a large production factory the glass is not marked and it is pretty impossible to tell who made the glass. IP: Logged |

With all deference to PhilO - I think that there may be a better candidate for the HP&S marks, as described above: Henry Pidduck was a retailer in Southport, the rich suburb of Liverpool full of grand houses near the sea. The firm did register marks but this was just to make it easier for their suppliers to supply already marked goods with the Pidduck stamp (as opposed to that of the actual maker). HENRY PERKINS & Sons, of London, will be the makers of the mounts on the two glass vases. IP: Logged |
