| "I have been very interested in the degree of copying which characterized many of the silver jewelry designs of the art nouveau period. Here is a two-piece belt buckle by Unger Brothers, another prolific and well-known silver manufacturer which operated at the same time as Shiebler and Kerr and was also located in Newark. If it weren't for the maker's mark, a U over a B, shown in the lower right corner of the slide, it would be difficult to tell that this buckle was not made by Kerr. Like Kerr, Unger stamped its buckle designs out of a thin sheet of sterling silver, and then soldered a flat back to the piece. This buckle is fairly large, about 4.5" wide and over 3" high" |
