Slide #23

"An aspect of belt buckles which fascinates me is how the same design elements were reused in different applications. This is a two-piece buckle by Kerr, featuring a winged cherub inside a horseshoe-shaped floral wreath. The buckle clips together right in the center. Each element of the piece - the winged cherub and the wreath - is separately made, the back soldered on, and then the separate finished elements are soldered together. The wreath was made and the back soldered on, and then it was literally sawn in half in order to attach the cupid to one side and the clasps to the back. That is why the two pieces match up so well when it is clasped. This piece is gold washed and is about 2" in diameter."
