| "This photo of the reverse of the portrait buckle shows how the fitting normally found on the buckle piece on the right has been soldered directly to the silver frame into which the porcelain oval has been mounted. In addition, the clasp on the left has been lengthened, and is bent into a slight right angle to accommodate the thickness of the portrait frame mounting. Since this modification required that the left clasp be lengthened, my conclusion is that this buckle could only have been made at the Kerr factory, probably to special order. The entire piece is about 5" wide." |
