| "This buckle is pictured in the 1902 Gorham Belt Buckle catalog shown on page 4 of this presentation. The marks are on the clasp and in addition to the Gorham lion, anchor and gothic "G" mark, it is marked "sterling & other metal". This refers to the center Medusa face, which is cast in copper. The rest of the buckle is cast in silver, and the face has been soldered into the silver to form a piece that shows the face in copper, surrounded by swirling silver hair. The photo in the bottom right corner, in addition to illustrating the markings, gives a sense of the depth of the relief of the piece. This buckle is about 3" in diameter." |
