| In the 1960s or so, Gorham produced a series of stickpins featuring figural cast designs. These are marked GORHAM STERLING. The example shown here is a figural fly. I have also seen motifs such as a dragonfly and the Sphinx from this series. I don't really even consider this piece part of my real collection, but include it here as an interesting comparison to the older pieces. Note that the craftsmanship on this later Gorham stickpin seems much clumsier than the Victorian examples. This is the most recent piece of insect silver that I own, but several high-end companies continue to produce, or have produced in recent years, insect motif jewelry, including Dior Homme (bee), Slane & Slane (bee), Gucci (butterfly), and Tiffany (reinterpretations of their trend setting late 1870s Japanesque designs).
