Vintage Boston Modernist Janiye Studio sterling silver necklace & bracelet designed by Miye Matsukata. Miye Matsukata (1921-1981) was born in Tokyo, Japan and attended Principia College in Elsah, Ill. and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston which awarded her traveling scholarships to Scandinavia and Egypt. In the 1950s, Miye Matsukata formed an atelier with two other graduates of the School of the MFA in Boston. The name, Atelier Janiye, was a combination of their given names. By 1958 Matsukata had become the sole owner of the Janiye studio and she continued to work there, joined by other jewelers, until her death in 1981.
