Godkin (1831-1902), editor-in-chief of the New York Evening Post, received this for his efforts in exposing corruption in the city's government. He was so unrelenting in his pursuit of corrupt practices by Tammany politicians that on one occasion they had him arrested for criminal libel three times in one day.
