I am especially interested in bright cut silver. I recently purchased a demitasse (5 1/2") spoon which appears to be at least close to sterling. The front of the handle has bright cut decorations which are typical of late nineteenth century American silver but also that remind me of Pennsylvania Dutch fraktur designs. There is a slightly off center monogram on the back in typical elegant feathered script. Also on the back is the mark, "S.MAURITZEN". I'm guessing this relates to the city or town of St. Moritz. Any ideas? The handle of the spoon is square in cross section and flattens gradually to the broad decorated end of the handle. (Sorry -- no picture. I hope to experiment with my son-in-law's scanner this weekend.) ------------------ IP: Logged |
