We thought it was time for another whatzit.

Although made by different manufacturers, the following two items are used together. The top item is by Dominick and Haff and the lower is by Whiting Mfg. Co.

So, what are they?

Appears to be a hair curler with a stand and heater. I would like to see what it looks like with the curler mounted to the stand.

Is this a portable curling iron & heater, since it looks like everything folds up?

The curling iron seems to be in Whiting's Louis XV pattern--I think the pattern's interesting because besides flatware, they also made all kinds of other accessories (I have had a walking stick handle, button hook, toothpick holder, match safe, and a few other things I now forget). I think it's the only pattern I've seen used on so many non-flatware pieces.

p.s. keep those whatzits coming.

Scott,
Thanks for the rest of the images. It appears the wick is flat to give heat to a great surface area. I love these what's its. Keep them going.

Hi Scott! FWIW. In my book "Jewelry, Watches and Silverware" E.V. Roddin & Co. 1895 (Chicago, Ill) Illustrated Catalog and Historical Introduction 1971 by the Pyne Press First Edition, it describes this type of item (in silverplate..no maker) as a Hair Crimping Set. Happy Holiday, Stay Safe.
