I have the following 'mystery makers mark' on a sterling bowl. It is also marked with the left facing lion passant, an uncrowned leopard's head, and a date mark for 1923-24. (I'm providing links to 3 photo versions, so the resident genie who turns them into pictures can pick whichever one looks clearest.)
The characters look like an ampersand on top, an E, the top of a D P B R or H, an oval blob, and an L (maybe with a tiny TD) on the bottom. The closest thing I can find reference to is Elkington and Co Ltd. except that the second letter in the centre seems wrong. Does anyone know if this may be their mark, know anything about them, or recognize it as someone else's? Thanks for any help. Vera. IP: Logged |

Thank you. I don't know very much about this silversmith, other than having seen occasional items at auctions in Victorian or Georgian style. I just looked on the internet for anything end 19th or early 20th century and found beautifully clean simple lines, but nothing anywhere about design and certainly no connection to arts & crafts, nouveau, deco, etc., or to any designers. Does anyone know anything about the design aspects of this firm's early 20th century wares? Also, are the original Barnard and his 3 sons still succeeded by directly descended Barnards? Vera.
