I had small lot of silver, Most I found the info on them, with many hours of work. I still have around 5 items I'm looking for. This item I have around 19 pieces spoons and forks from this set. I would like to get as much info on these if possible. There is a 84 over GR and a "O (unsure Liberty Statue? Man holding something? L" Thanks for the help.

Hi Thanks, I saw it a minute before reading your info. Liberty Orfèvrerie S.A. of Sablé sur Sarthe, France. A small firm founded in the 1920's, they have specialized in silverplating flatware and holloware of traditional design since 1958. So is this silver plate? What does the 84 GR stand for? I will be investing in a new silver book in the future. IP: Logged |

The 84 over GR in the square would most likely stand for "84 grams" as being the quality of the silver plating the manufacturer would have touted to entice people to buy the flatware. This would be the number of grams of silver that were used to plate a dozen forks and spoons. It is a standard you see sometimes on European silverplated flatware. Sometimes you see it as high as 100 grams, and sometimes you see a lower number. 84 seems to be one of the more common qualities of plating. Other silver plating quality schemes you sometimes see are numbers indicating the number of microns of thickness of the silver plating or phrases like quadruple plated. IP: Logged |
