I recently acquired a coin beaker by Shepard & Boyd While it is in nicely unworn condition it does have several crease-type dents that I find a bit distracting. Maybe some of the crafts persons can give me some advice. Is there a way to make the dents look better without having to resort to 'high polishing' the piece? Thanks IP: Logged |

Burnishing is the best method and least destructive method to remove dents. The method employs the use of highly polished metal tools to coax the metal back to it's original shape and contour. Care must be taken to not press too hard on the metal so as not to stretch it. Shaped hardwood tools can be useful in removing smaller dents. Patience and skill are required for this and all other restoration. I do not recommend ever buffing to remove dents! Fred IP: Logged |

Would it be inappropriate to ask for a list of craftspeople who could do this sort of thing? IP: Logged |

I highly recommend Jeffrey Herman, Founder of the Society of American Silversmiths. I too can do minor restorations. Fred IP: Logged |
