hello,

I do not know what kind of spoon this is, and I am hoping you can help me.

Also, help me with the maker? It appears to have a W inside of a circle on the back and the numbers 835.

Thank you so much for your time,
Sincerely,
Jennifer Andrews

835 is most likely the silver quality mark meaning 83.5 percent pure silver with the remaining 16.5 percent of the alloy being other metals (things like nickel and copper and such). It is lesser purity than sterling which is 92.5 percent pure silver and 7.5% percent other metals.

I don't recognize the circled W mark offhand. Please post a photo of the mark.

Rainwater & Redfield shows a W in a circle as the mark of Woodside Sterling Co with the note to see Richard M. Wood & Co.

That would mean that the 835 might really be 925. Sometimes these numbers can be hard to read.

A picture would helped a lot!

My first thought on seeing 835 as a silver content mark was that this spoon might come from Continental Europe. As to what it was used for, weren't these for fruit salads etc? So whether this spoon was for eating or for serving depends on the size.

The W looks like it may be inside of a Partial circle.
Do you have any idea of what kind of spoon this is ?
Thanks so much for your time,
Jennifer

How big is it? Without any indication of size, it could be a coffee spoon or a spoon for eating fruit salad etc, or for serving cream on your fruit, or for serving your fruit etc......

What do you mean by a partial circle? Could it be this, for example:
