An oval box, 2 x 1 3/4 inches (5 x 4.5cms), weight 46.4g, stand away hinge, floriated thumb piece, gilded interior with an oval striped 'honey' agate set into the base.

The lid, set with a carved shell cameo of a classical scene, probably Hippolytus (a winged male jumping over a shield being drawn by three horses).

Dating is probably early C19th.

The only mark, on the base flange, within a rectangular punch is "SZIGETI".

This is a Hungarian name but as there no assay marks, only the maker's name, would tend to suggest its origin was other than there.

Contacted some Szigeti family web sites but no joy.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
