I can't tell you how many times I've looked at an ebay listing of silver to either see 5 photos of the item all from almost the same angle but none of them of the mark, or a description of the mark yet no photo of same. It's annoying.

Sometimes people have troubles photographing marks. And from personal experience, showing a mark can invite endless emails arguing with the seller. So for many, it is easier and less trouble to simply describe the mark.

I share this annoyance. While I, too, have trouble photographing marks, I have seen so many misidentified marks (particularly British and Irish) that I find I cannot rely upon a written description. In addition, you need to be comfortable that the marks are genuine. Unless I know the dealer, I don't bid if the marks aren't shown. I am sure that others feel similarly, so the sellers are losing opportunities.

Most lower priced entry level digital cameras don't have macro functions and so people can't get close-ups unless they invest in one that does.

They can try shooting thru a magnifying glass -- it would act as a plus or supplementary lens. Not perfect, but better than nothing!

Hi guys,

I have indeed shot close ups in the old digital camera days through a 5x magnifying glass (well really plastic) and it came out fine for digital and ebay work.

There is a learning curve to getting good photos and I think that ebay posts hints on that.

We all need to help each other out. That is really what this site is for as well. But naturally, you can't help folks who don't want it.

Happy holidays to all.
