Awhile ago I bought this unassuming souvenir spoon from Columbus, OH. The bowl depicts the Ohio state capitol building. The handle has the interesting inscription of "A.A. of S.P. v. T.W.". The back is dated 1903. I tried to contact the Columbus Historical Society but received no reply. Does anybody have any suggestions about what this spoon could commemorate? My guess was some big trial that took place there in 1903.

It is most likely a law suit. If you know anyone with access to Lexis/Nexis, you could probably research it by name-my guess is that the A.A. stands for American Association. Since you have the date and the state, you could do a search by American Association and see what comes up.

The other place you could try is a county or state law library in Ohio-they often have reference desks and will do the research for you.

I am an attorney, but I would have to pay to do this search online, as I don't have access to books with Ohio case law back that far. It's definitely searchable, though.

Good luck!
